Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that a field coil type synchronous motor may require a measure to reduce a possibility to reconnect a DR even under surge or noise after synchronous operation, the field coil type synchronous motor including the DR on a field circuit and comprising a circuit capable of performing switching to the synchronous operation and a disconnection of the DR.SOLUTION: A field coil type synchronous motor comprises: a rotor; a stator; an exciter which causes a current to flow to a field coil of the rotor; and a rectifier circuit by which output of the exciter is rectified and given to a DC line, and is connected to the DC line. In the field coil type synchronous motor, a first circuit in which a parallel circuit consisting of a rectification element and a first switching device and a discharge resistor are connected in series is connected in parallel to the field coil. A second switching device is connected in series to the DC line that connects the first circuit and the rectifier circuit.
