Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To satisfactorily clean a transfer member even when an environmental condition is changed without causing an increase in size and cost.SOLUTION: When jam recovery occurs (S1), an image forming apparatus sets a recovery operation execution flag (S2), cancels the jam recovery (S3), detects an environmental condition with a temperature and humidity sensor (S4), when determining that the detected environmental condition is a predetermined environmental condition (in the present embodiment, either one of ML, LL, or LLL environment), proceeds to S6 and sets the mode of bias cleaning to a low-speed cleaning mode, when the detected environmental condition is other than the above, proceeds to S7 and sets the mode of bias cleaning to a normal cleaning mode, brings a secondary transfer roller 36 being a transfer member into contact with an intermediate transfer belt 31 being an image carrier (S8), and applies a predetermined cleaning bias and executes bias cleaning (S9).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】コストアップや大型化を招くことなく、環境条件等が変動した場合でも転写部材を良好にクリーニングする。【解決手段】ジャムリカバリが発生すると(S1)、復帰動作実行フラグを立てる(S2)。そして、ジャムリカバリを解除して(S3)、温湿度センサ等により環境条件を検出する(S4)。ここで検出した環境条件が所定の環境条件(本実施形態ではML,LL,LLL環境のいずれか)と判定された場合はS6に進み、バイアスクリーニングのモードをクリーニング低速モードに設定する。また、検出した環境条件が上記以外の場合はS7に進み、バイアスクリーニングのモードをクリーニング標準モードに設定する。そして、転写部材である二次転写ローラ36を像担持体である中間転写ベルト31に当接させ(S8)、所定のクリーニングバイアスを印加してバイアスクリーニングを実行する(S9)。【選択図】図4
