Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new polymer composition that provides a liquid crystal alignment film for a lateral electric field driving type liquid crystal display that is provided with alignment control ability at high efficiency and is excellent in burn-in resistance, and a liquid crystal alignment film for a lateral electric field driving type liquid crystal display using the same.SOLUTION: The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a substrate comprising a liquid crystal alignment film including the steps of: applying a polymer composition containing (A) a photosensitive side chain type polymer exhibiting mesomorphism within a predetermined temperature range and (B) an organic solvent onto a substrate including a conductive film for driving a lateral electric field to form a coating; and irradiating the obtained coating with a polarized ultraviolet ray while heating the coating at a temperature equal to or higher than 35°C and less than the Tiso of the photosensitive side chain type polymer; and heating the obtained coating.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】本発明によれば、高効率で配向制御能が付与され、焼き付き特性に優れた、横電界駆動型液晶表示素子用液晶配向膜を与える新規な重合体組成物と、それを用いる横電界駆動型液晶表示素子用液晶配向膜が提供される。【解決手段】本発明は、(A)所定の温度範囲で液晶性を発現する感光性の側鎖型高分子、及び(B)有機溶媒を含有する重合体組成物組成物を横電界駆動用の導電膜を有する基板上に塗布して塗膜を形成する工程、得られた塗膜を、35℃以上であり、かつ上記感光性の側鎖型高分子のTiso未満である温度で加熱しながら、当該塗膜に偏光した紫外線を照射する工程及び得られた塗膜を加熱する工程を有する、液晶配向膜を有する基板の製造方法に関する。【選択図】なし
