Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of preventing mixing of impurities into a liquid crystal material from a sealing material layer, and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device.SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: an array substrate and a counter substrate disposed opposing to each other and bonded by a frame-like sealing material layer; a liquid crystal layer disposed in a region enclosed by the sealing material layer; and a frame-like non-display region defining a display region inside. The sealing material layer comprises a cured product of an acrylic resin and/or an epoxy resin containing particles that absorb visible rays and/or infrared rays to generate heat and a thermal polymerization initiator. The surface of the counter substrate opposing to the array substrate comprises a first region corresponding to the display region, a second region extending from an outer edge of the first region to an inner edge of the sealing material layer, a third region extending from an outer edge of the second region halfway toward an outer edge of the sealing material layer, and a fourth region extending from an outer edge of the third region to an outer edge of the sealing material layer.
