Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarizing plate for improving punching property of a thin film polarizing plate and light leakage of a thin film display panel.SOLUTION: The polarizing plate of the present invention is configured to sandwich a polarizer with a first protective film having a film thickness of 20 μm or less and a second protective film. The second protective film is a retardation film that comprises a cycloolefin resin having a polar group and a compound A having a molecular weight of 400 to 1200 and containing at least one carbon ring and a heterocycle containing nitrogen or at least three carbon rings, in which the carbon ring has a polar group, by 1 to 20 mass%, and that shows an in-plane retardation value Ro of 0 to 5 nm and a retardation value Rt in a thickness direction of -5 to 5 nm and has a film thickness of 5 to 15 μm.
