Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide various improvements in an electrophoretic medium and a display intended for use as a light modulator.SOLUTION: Various improvements in an electrophoretic medium and a display intended for use as a light modulator include: matching refractive index of suspending fluid to refractive index of a continuous phase surrounding the suspending fluid; matching refractive index of a capsule wall to refractive index of a binder; planarization of a layer including an electrophoretic capsule before application of lamination adhesive to the layer; a method for concentrating electrophoretic particles into a limited area of a side wall of a microcell or the electrophoretic capsule in the light transmissive state of the display; and, in the case of a light modulator having an electrophoretic layer sandwiched by two transparent plates, forming at least one of the transparent plates so as to absorb electromagnetic radiation which adversely affects the electrophoretic layer.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】光変調器としての使用を意図した電気泳動媒体およびディスプレイの様々な改善の提供。【解決手段】光変調器としての使用を意図した電気泳動媒体およびディスプレイの様々な改善には、懸濁流体の屈折率をその懸濁流体を取り囲む連続相の屈折率と合わせること、カプセル壁の屈折率をバインダの屈折率とマッチングすること、電気泳動カプセルを含む層をその層にラミネーション接着剤を付加する前に平坦化すること、ディスプレイの光透過状態における電気泳動カプセルまたはマイクロセルの側壁の限定されたエリアに電気泳動粒子を集中する方法、および、2枚の透明な板の間に挟まれた電気泳動層を備える光変調器の場合、透明な板の少なくとも一方が、電気泳動層に悪影響を及ぼす電磁放射を吸収するように形成することを含む。【選択図】なし
