Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system for controlling fluid flow in suction circuit and irrigation circuits during a surgical procedure using selectively moveable valve elements.SOLUTION: The suction circuit comprises: a suction line 52 operatively connected to a surgical instrument 42; a suction exhaust line 54 operatively connected to a waste receptacle 58; a suction vent line 60 connected at a first end to the suction line; and a selectively variable vent valve 62 operatively connected to the suction vent line. The variable vent valve may be selectively moved to vary suction pressure within the suction line.
