Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power amplifier and control method thereof, capable of achieving power saving and an output without any distortion against an optional unknown input signal.SOLUTION: The power amplifier includes: a signal delay circuit for delaying an input signal; a power amplifier circuit having a pre-regulator and power-amplifying a delay input signal; and a pre-regulator control signal generating circuit with a comparator circuit for comparing outputs of two peak hold circuits for peak-holding an input signal and a delay input signal to each other and outputting a higher one, and controls a pre-regulator of the power amplifier circuit with an output signal of the comparator circuit as a pre-regulator control signal.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2 【課題】任意の未知の入力信号に対しても省電力かつ歪みの無い出力が得られる電力増幅器及びその制御方法を実現する。【解決手段】入力信号を遅延する信号遅延回路と、プリレギュレータを備え、遅延入力信号を電力増幅する電力増幅回路を備えた電力増幅器であって、入力信号と遅延入力信号をピークホールドする2つのピークホールド回路の出力を比較し、高いほうを出力する比較回路とを備えたプリレギュレータ制御信号生成回路を有し、前記比較回路の出力信号をプリレギュレータ制御信号として電力増幅回路のプリレギュレータを制御する電力増幅器とした。【選択図】図2
