Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing forsterite fine particles having a fine particle diameter that is useful for various kinds of pottery, translucent decorative materials, electronic parts and the like, especially usable as insulation materials having low dielectric loss at a high frequency region for use in electronic parts and capable of enhancing translucency of particles.SOLUTION: The method for producing forsterite fine particles having a primary particle diameter in the range of 1 to 200 nm as determined by electron microscope observation comprises atomizing and drying a solution containing a water-soluble magnesium salt and colloidal silica in a molar ratio (Mg/Si) of magnesium atom to silicon atom of 2 at a temperature of not less than 50°C to less than 300°C and then firing the same in the atmosphere at a temperature of 800 to 1,000°C.SELECTED DRAWING: None 【課題】各種陶磁器、透光性装飾材、電子部品等に有用であり、特に電子部品用として高周波領域での誘電損失の低い絶縁材料として使用可能であって、且つ粒子の透光性を高めることが可能な微小な粒子径のフォルステライト微粒子の製造方法を提供する。
