Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and optical fiber laser apparatus that are capable of adjusting intensity of surge light without greatly changing a time until laser light output has been obtained after having outputting a laser output setting instruction value.SOLUTION: A surge light intensity adjustment method for an optical fiber laser apparatus comprising a control unit for performing feedback control on an excitation laser light source so that light intensity of laser output light of an optical fiber laser is closer to a target value includes the steps of: setting a first upper limit limiter value to a laser output setting instruction value for a drive unit for the excitation laser light source, in a non-light emission period in which the laser output light has not been output; outputting the laser output setting instruction value to the drive unit in order to perform feedback control, after setting of the first upper limit limiter value; setting a second upper limit limiter value that is lower than the first upper limit limiter value and is to be the upper limit value for the laser output setting instruction value, when the laser output setting instruction value has reached the first upper limit limiter value; and nullifying setting of the second upper limit limiter value, when it has been determined that the laser output light has been output.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】レーザ出力設定指示値を出力してからレーザ光出力が得られるまでの時間を大きく変化させることなく、サージ光の強度を調整できる方法及び光ファイバレーザ装置を提供すること。【解決手段】光ファイバレーザのレーザ出力光の光強度が目標値に近づくように励起レーザ光源をフィードバック制御する制御部を備える光ファイバレーザ装置のサージ光強度の調整方法であって、レーザ出力光が出力されていない非発光期間に、励起レーザ光源の駆動部に対するレーザ出力設定指示値に対して第1上限リミッタ値を設定し、第1上限リミッタ値の設定後にフィードバック制御のためにレーザ出力設定指示値を駆動部に出力し、レーザ出力設定指示値が第1上限リミッタ値に達したとき、第1上限リミッタ値より小さく該レーザ出力設定指示値に対する上限値となる第2上限リミッタ値を設定し、レーザ出力光が出力されたと判定したとき第2上限リミッタ値の設定を無効にする。【選択図】図1
