Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter device which prevents breakage and deterioration caused by use and can be used stably for a long period of time, and provide a ballast water treatment method using the same.SOLUTION: A filter device includes: a cylindrical pleat filter 101 in which a filter base material has folds which repeats mountain parts and valley parts, and the mountain parts of the folds are positioned on an outer side in a radial direction; a nozzle 102 which flows treated water out to an outer circumference surface of the pleat filter 101; a case 103 which is arranged so as to surround the pleat filter 101 and has an outer cylinder part; a filtration water flow channel which leads out filtration water permeating the pleat filter 101 to an external of the case 103; and a discharge flow channel which discharges discharged water which is not filtered by the pleat filter 101 to the external of the case 103.
