Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery in which cycle characteristics and high-temperature storage characteristics are improved without damaging the advantage of high capacity inherent to a lithium nickel composite oxide.SOLUTION: A positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is manufactured with at least an oxidizing roasting step S12, a mixing step S13, and a firing step S14, the positive electrode active material containing a lithium nickel composite oxide represented by general formula (1): LiNiCoMnMgO(where u, x, y, and z in the formula satisfy the conditions 0.015≤u≤0.030, 0.05≤x≤0.20, 0.01≤y≤0.10, 0.01≤z≤0.05 and 0.10≤x+y+z≤0.25.), and having a crystallite diameter of 100-130 nm.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】リチウムニッケル複合酸化物が本来有する高容量という利点を損なわずに、サイクル特性と高温保存特性とを向上させた非水系電解質二次電池用正極活物質を提供する。【解決手段】一般式(1):Li1+uNi1−x−y−zCoxMnyMgzO2(ただし、式中のu、x、y及びzは、0.015≦u≦0.030、0.05≦x≦0.20、0.01≦y≦0.10、0.01≦z≦0.05、0.10≦x+y+z≦0.25を満たす。)で表されるリチウムニッケル複合酸化物を含み、結晶子径が100nm〜130nmである非水系電解質二次電池用正極活物質を、少なくとも、酸化焙焼工程S12、混合工程S13及び焼成工程S14を経ることにより作製する。【選択図】図1
