PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical system for projection for forming an intermediate image, which has high projection performance with the aberrations corrected at wide angle while suppressing the cost, and also provide a projection type display device including the optical system for projection.SOLUTION: The optical system for projection substantially includes in the order from the reduction side: a first optical system G1 including a plurality of lenses and forming an image on an image display element as an intermediate image; and a second optical system G2 including a plurality of lenses and forming the intermediate image on a magnified side conjugate surface.
