Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the curling or performance deterioration of a tonner cleaning member while avoiding the deterioration of print productivity or the blockage of the lifetime of components as much as possible in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier 11; charging means 12; latent image forming means 20; developing means 13; an intermediate transfer body 31; transfer means 32; first cleaning means 14 for cleaning toner remaining on the image carrier 11; second cleaning means 33 for cleaning the toner remaining on the intermediate transfer body 31; state detection means for detecting the state of the image forming apparatus; and control means 70. The control means 70 changes either a print start timing of a bias voltage of the developing means 13 in an image formation start sequence or a print stop timing of a bias voltage of the developing means 13 in an image formation end sequence on the basis of the detection result of the state detection means such that the toner is applied to the image carrier 11 and/or the intermediate transfer body 31.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】電子写真方式の画像形成装置において、プリント生産性が低下したり、部品の寿命を阻害することを極力回避しつつ、トナークリーニング部材の捲れや性能劣化を防止すること。【解決手段】像担持体11と、帯電手段12と、潜像形成手段20と、現像手段13と、中間転写体31と、転写手段32と、像担持体11上に残留したトナーをクリーニングする第1のクリーニング手段14と、中間転写体31上に残留したトナーをクリーニングする第2のクリーニング手段33と、画像形成装置の状態を検出する状態検出手段と、制御手段70と、を備えた画像形成装置。制御手段70は、像担持体11及び/又は中間転写体31にトナーを塗布するために、画像形成開始シーケンスにおいては現像手段13のバイアス電圧の印加開始タイミング、及び、画像形成終了シーケンスにおいては現像手段13のバイアス電圧の印加停止タイミングの少なくともいずれかを、前記状態検出手段の検出結果に基づいて変更する。【選択図】図1
