Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a porous carbon electrode for a solid polymer-type fuel battery, which is high in surface smoothness.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a porous carbon electrode comprises the steps of: preparing a coating liquid including two kinds of carbon powder, a water-repellent agent, a surfactant and water, in which the two kinds of carbon powder consist of first carbon powder of which the average particle diameter is 0.03-10 μm, and second carbon powder of which the average particle diameter is larger than that of the first carbon powder by 0.05-10 μm; applying the coating liquid onto a base material of the porous carbon electrode to form a uniform coating film on the porous carbon electrode base material; drying the coating film by putting the porous carbon electrode base material with the coating film formed thereon under the condition of 50-200°C; and sintering the porous carbon electrode base material with the dried coating film formed thereon at 300-400°C to manufacture the porous carbon electrode with the coating layer formed thereon. A porous carbon electrode comprises a coating film prepared from a coating liquid including first carbon powder and second carbon powder which is 5-300 wt% to the weight of the first carbon powder.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】表面の平滑性が高い固体高分子型燃料電池用多孔質炭素電極の製造方法の提供。【解決手段】平均粒径が0.03〜10μmである第一のカーボン粉と、第一のカーボン粉の平均粒径よりも平均粒径が0.05〜10μm大きい第二のカーボン粉の2種類の粒径の異なるカーボン粉と撥水剤及び界面活性剤、水からなるコーティング液を作成する工程、多孔質炭素電極基材上に前記コーティング液を塗布し、多孔質炭素電極基材上に均一な塗工膜を形成する工程、塗工膜を形成した多孔質炭素電極基材を50〜200℃で塗工膜を乾燥する工程、乾燥後の塗工膜を形成した多孔質炭素電極基材を300〜400℃で焼成して、コーティング層を形成した多孔質炭素電極を製造する工程から成る多孔質炭素電極の製造方法。第一カーボン粉の重量に対して、5〜300重量%である第二カーボン粉からなるコーティング液から作成されたコーティング膜を有する多孔質炭素電極。【選択図】図1
