Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a journal bearing capable of sufficiently securing an oil film thickness in a bearing pad and capable of suppressing increase of agitation resistance of a rotor shaft.SOLUTION: A journal bearing includes: a carrier ring formed in an annular shape; a first bearing pad provided on an inner peripheral side in a lower half region of the carrier ring, and constituted so as to support a rotor shaft from below; a first oil supply unit installed right before on an upstream side of the first bearing pad; and a pair of side plates installed along an outer periphery of the rotor shaft on an axial direction one end part and the other end part of the carrier ring. Each of the side plates includes a first region, and a second region which is located on the upper side than the first region and in which a gap between an inner peripheral surface of the side plate and an outer peripheral surface of the rotor shaft is narrower than that in the first region.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5 【課題】軸受パッドにおける油膜厚さを十分に確保可能であり、かつ、ロータ軸の撹拌抵抗の増大を抑制可能であるジャーナル軸受を提供する。【解決手段】ジャーナル軸受は、円環状に形成されたキャリアリングと、前記キャリアリングの下半領域の内周側に設けられ、ロータ軸を下方から支持するように構成された第1軸受パッドと、前記第1軸受パッドの上流側直前に設置された第1給油ユニットと、前記キャリアリングの軸方向一端部と他端部とに前記ロータ軸の外周に沿って設置された一対のサイドプレートと、を備える。各々の前記サイドプレートは、第1領域と、前記第1領域よりも上側に位置し、前記サイドプレートの内周面と前記ロータ軸の外周面との間の間隙が前記第1領域に比べて狭い第2領域と、を含む。【選択図】 図5
