Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an emulsification process of a high viscosity resin without using a solvent.SOLUTION: In one embodiment, a solvent-free emulsification process for producing a latex having an average particle size of 50 to 900 nm is provided that comprises: heating a high viscosity resin to 90°C or more; mixing the heated resin with a surfactant and a neutralization agent in an amount corresponding to an acid value of the resin in a reaction vessel provided with a mixing device in the absence of an organic solvent to form a mixture; adding water to the mixture under pressurization of ca. 10 to 1000 KPa to form an emulsion under agitation; and reducing pressure in the vessel to obtain a solvent-free emulsion containing resin particles.
