PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form an image with good image quality even when performing additional printing of forming images a plurality of times on a single sheet while replacing mounted engines.SOLUTION: There is provided an image forming apparatus including a plurality of engines each forming an image of each of colors individually replaceably at a time, receiving an input of image data showing an image to be formed by using the number of engines for colors exceeding the number of engines that can be mounted at a time, and forming a final image shown by the image data on a sheet through a process of forming images a plurality of times on a single sheet while replacing the mounted engines, the image forming apparatus storing a time at which the mounted engines are removed, and performing image quality adjustment processing prior to image formation using a newly mounted engine according to a removal and storage period that is a time elapsed from a time at which the newly mounted engine was previously removed to a time the engine is newly mounted.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4 【課題】搭載エンジンを交換しながら同一用紙上に複数回にわたって画像を形成する追い刷りを行なう場合であっても良好な画質の画像を形成する。【解決手段】各色の画像の形成を分担するエンジンが個々に交換自在に同時に複数基搭載され、同時搭載可能なエンジンの数を越える色数のエンジンを使用して形成される画像を表わす画像データの入力を受け付け、搭載エンジンが交換され同一用紙上に複数回にわたって画像を形成する過程を経てその画像データにより表わされる最終画像を用紙上に形成する画像形成装置であって、搭載エンジンの取外し時点の時刻を記憶しておき、今回新たに搭載されたエンジンが前回取り外された時点からそのエンジンが今回新たに搭載された時点までの経過時間である取外し保管期間に応じて、新たに搭載されたエンジンを使用しての画像形成に先立ち、画質調整処理を実行する。【選択図】図４
