Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system that purifies and reduces NOx by supplying hydrocarbon (fuel or the like) to exhaust gas of a Diesel engine and others, and a catalyst which can be suitably used.SOLUTION: A catalyst 1 comprises a base material and a catalyst layer disposed on the base material, where the catalyst layer has a first carrier, palladium carried on the first carrier, and first alkali metal or alkaline earth metal forming a composite with palladium, and also has second alkali metal or alkaline earth metal forming no composite with palladium.
