Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of continuing printing while preventing a reduction in processing speed of the printing even when discharge abnormality occurs in a nozzle, and further to provide a printing method.SOLUTION: A printer 1 is a device performing printing onto a recording medium. The printer 1 comprises: droplet discharge heads 92K, 92C, 92M, 92B, 92R, 92OR, 92G and 92Y having nozzles discharging liquid having colors different from one another as droplets onto the recording medium; and discharge abnormality detection means detecting discharge abnormality of the droplets at each nozzle. The printer 1 is configured so as to be able to have a mode for performing the printing by using, for example, the rest of the droplet discharge heads 92K, 92C, 92B, 92R, 92OR, 92G and 92Y excluding the droplet discharge head 92M having a nozzle where the discharge abnormality is detected and nozzles discharging the droplets having the same color as that of the droplets discharged by the nozzle when the discharge abnormality is detected by the discharge abnormality detection means.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 17 【課題】ノズルでの吐出異常が生じた場合でも、印刷の処理速度の低下を防止しつつ、当該印刷を継続することができる印刷装置および印刷方法を提供すること。【解決手段】印刷装置1は、記録媒体に印刷を行なう装置である。この印刷装置1は、互いに色が異なる液体を液滴として記録媒体上に吐出するノズルを有する液滴吐出ヘッド92K、92C、92M、92B、92R、92OR、92G、92Yと、各ノズルでの液滴の吐出異常を検出する吐出異常検出手段とを備え、吐出異常検出手段により吐出異常が検出された場合に、吐出異常が検出されたノズルと、当該ノズルが吐出する液滴と同色の液滴を吐出するノズルとを有する例えば液滴吐出ヘッド92Mを除く、残りの液滴吐出ヘッド92K、92C、92B、92R、92OR、92G、92Yを用いて、印刷を行なうモードを取り得るよう構成されている。【選択図】図17
