Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device that can suppress the occurrence of shock jitter in changing the amount of separation between an image carrier and a contact member between a first interval and a second interval, and an image forming apparatus.SOLUTION: There is provided a transfer device including a contact member that forms a transfer nip sandwiching a recording medium with an image carrier, and contact/separation means having a rotatable cam member that contacts or separates the image carrier from the contact member, where the cam member includes a first peripheral part 401 that is in contact with an opposing member provided on the image carrier side and has the amount of separation between the image carrier and contact member being a first interval, a second peripheral part 402 that is not in contact with the opposing member while the image carrier is in contact with the contact member, and a third peripheral part 403 that is located between the first peripheral part and second peripheral part in a cam member rotation direction, in contact with the opposing member, and has the amount of separation being a second interval smaller than the first interval.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 【課題】像担持体と接触部材との離間量を第一間隔と第二間隔とで変えるときに、ショックジターが発生するのを抑制できる転写装置及び画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】像担持体との間で記録媒体を挟み込む転写ニップを形成する接触部材と、像担持体と接触部材とを接離させる回転可能なカム部材を有する接離手段とを備えた転写装置において、カム部材は、像担持体側に設けられた対向部材と当たり像担持体と接触部材との離間量が第一間隔となる第一周縁部401と、対向部材と当たらず像担持体と接触部材とが接触する第二周縁部402と、カム部材回転方向で第一周縁部と第二周縁部との間に位置し、対向部材と当たり離間量が第一間隔よりも小さな第二間隔となる第三周縁部403とを有する。【選択図】図1
