Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst which, when producing acrylic acid from propane and/or acrolein, is excellent in catalytic performance such as catalytic activity and selectivity and in catalyst life, and which exhibits stable performance for a long period of time.SOLUTION: Provided is a catalyst for producing acrylic acid by contact gas-phase oxidation of propane and/or acrolein in the presence of molecular oxygen or a gas containing molecular oxygen, the catalyst containing molybdenum and vanadium as essential components. In an X-ray diffraction analysis of catalytically active components using a Cu-Kα ray, I(36.9°)/I(22.2°), a ratio of a peak intensity at a diffraction angle 2θ of 36.9°±0.3° to a peak intensity at a diffraction angle 2θ of 22.2°±0.3° is 0.04 or more and less than 0.7.SELECTED DRAWING: None
