Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for separating a plurality of halocarbons in an azeotropic composition.SOLUTION: In one embodiment, 2-chloro-1,1,1,2-tetrafluoropropane (HCFC-244bb) is separated from 2-chloro-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (HCFO-1233xf) by adding hydrogen fluoride (HF) as a third component and then separating via conventional distillation. More specifically, the invention pertains to a method for separating HCFC-244bb from HCFO-1233xf by forming a ternary azeotrope of HCFC-244bb, HCFO-1233xf and HF and distilling it from the solution such that a portion of HCFC-244bb remains in the solution while substantially all of HCFO-1234xf is removed.
