Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a fraction of an alkaloid having a blood sugar-depressing action from mulberry branches as a raw material.SOLUTION: A fraction as a herbal medicine prepared from mulberry branches includes 50 wt.% of a total alkaloid on the basis of the amount of effective fraction, and not less than 30 wt.% of compound 1-deoxynojirimycin on the basis of the total amount of alkaloid. Also provided are a method of preparing the effective fraction, a pharmaceutical composition containing the effective fraction, and use of the effective fraction for preparing a hypoglycemic medicine. 【課題】血糖降下作用を有する、アルカロイドの有効画分を、桑の枝を原料として調製する。【解決手段】桑の枝から作製される、生薬としての有効画分であって、総アルカロイドが有効画分を基準に５０重量％であり、化合物１−ジオキシノジリマイシンが総アルカロイドを基準に３０重量％以上である有効画分が、開示される。この有効画分を調製するための方法、およびこの有効画分を含有する薬学的組成物、ならびに血糖降下剤を調製するためのこの有効画分の使用もまた、開示される。【選択図】なし
