Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To further improve the fuel economy, drivability, and transmission performance of a vehicle mounting therein a step transmission and improve the durability of engagement elements, and make the step transmission light in weight and compact.SOLUTION: An automatic transmission 20 comprises: a composite planetary gear mechanism 25 configured by a combination of a single-pinion first planetary gear set 21 and a single-pinion third planetary gear set 23; a single-pinion second planetary gear set 22; a single-pinion fourth planetary gear set 24; clutches C1 to C4; and brakes B1 and B2, three out of the clutches C1 to C4 and the brakes B1 and B2 being engaged and the three remainders being disengaged, thereby forming forward first to tenth gears and a reverse gear. 【課題】多段変速機が搭載される車両の燃費、ドライバビリティ、変速性能および係合要素の耐久性をより向上させると共に、多段変速機の軽量コンパクト化を図る。【解決手段】自動変速機20は、シングルピニオン式の第1遊星歯車21およびシングルピニオン式の第3遊星歯車23を組み合わせて構成される複合遊星歯車機構25と、シングルピニオン式の第2遊星歯車22と、シングルピニオン式の第4遊星歯車24と、クラッチC1〜C4と、ブレーキB1およびB2とを含み、クラッチC1〜C4、ブレーキB1およびB2のうち、何れか3つを係合させると共に残余の3つを解放させることにより前進第1速段から前進第10速段および後進段を形成する。【選択図】図1
