The recording head is disposed at an interval of a distance Xwith respect to the image detection means, and when the recording head forms an image pattern a, the position detection means detects position information a. The image detection means periodically reads an image to determine whether the image matches the image pattern a, and when they are determined to match each other, the position detection means detects position information b at the time when the image detection means detected the image pattern a.
