PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of suppressing the down time even when a color image is formed after continuous formation of monochrome images.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus executes a multi color mode for forming a color image by overlapping images formed on a plurality of photoreceptors 11Y to 11K, and a monochrome mode for forming a black-and-white image according to an image formed on one photoreceptor 11K, to form an image. The image forming apparatus 100 includes an image processing part 610 for generating image information and a CPU611 that controls the part, and an image forming part 620 for forming an image according to the image information and a CPU621 that controls the part. When the mode is switched from the monochrome mode to the multi color mode, the CPU611 controls the image processing part 610 to process the image information corresponding to a color image for correction of inclination and distortion of the image, while the CPU621 controls the image forming part 620 to correct relative positions of images of the multi color mode according to the corrected image information. 【課題】連続してモノクロ画像を形成した後に、カラー画像を形成する場合であっても、ダウンタイムを抑制することができる画像形成装置を提供する。【解決手段】複数の感光体１１Ｙ〜１１Ｋ上に形成した画像を重ね合わせてカラー画像を形成する複数色モードと、１つの感光体１１Ｋ上に形成した画像を用いて白黒画像を形成する単色モードとを実行して画像を形成する画像形成装置であって、画像形成装置１００は、画像情報を作成する画像処理部６１０及びこれを制御するＣＰＵ６１１と、画像情報を用いて画像を形成する画像形成部６２０及びこれを制御するＣＰＵ６２１と、を備え、ＣＰＵ６１１は、単色モードから複数色モードに移行した際、画像処理部６１０を制御してカラー画像に対応する画像情報を処理して画像の傾き又は歪みを補正させ、ＣＰＵ６２１は、画像形成部６２０を制御して補正された画像情報を用いて複数色モードの画像の相対的位置を補正させる。【選択図】 図５
