Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber connection device which facilitates connection between a PMF and PLC, and improve connection characteristic between a core of the PMF and a light guide of the PLC.SOLUTION: The optical fiber connection device for connecting a polarization holding fiber 20 to a planar light wave circuit 12 formed on a substrate comprises: a mirror 103 having a slant surface facing a first end surface where an end surface of a light guide of the planar light wave circuit 12 is exposed, and a slant surface facing a second end surface where a fiber end surface of a capillary 14 into which the polarization holding fiber 20 is inserted, is exposed; imaging elements 109, 110 for imaging the first and second end surfaces which are reflected by the mirror 103; and a fixing jig 102 for gripping the capillary 14, rotating the capillary 14 around an optical axis of the polarization holding fiber 20 and moving the capillary 14 on a plane vertical to the optical axis. The fixing jig 102 is controlled so that position of a core of the light guide of the planar light wave circuit 12 and a core of the polarization holding fiber 20 become identical, by monitoring the imaging elements. 【課題】PMFとPLCとの接続を容易にし、PMFのコアとPLCの光導波路との接続特性を改善することができる光ファイバ接続装置を提供する。【解決手段】偏波保持ファイバ20を基板上に形成された平面光波回路12に接続するための光ファイバ接続装置において、平面光波回路12の光導波路の端面が露出している第1の端面に対向する斜面と、偏波保持ファイバ20が挿入されたキャピラリ14のファイバ端面が露出している第2の端面に対向する斜面とを有するミラー103と、ミラー103により反射された第1および第2の端面を撮像する撮像素子109、110と、キャピラリ14を把持し、偏波保持ファイバ20の光軸周りに回転させ、光軸と垂直な平面上を移動させる固定用治具102とを備え、撮像素子を監視して、平面光波回路12の光導波路のコアと偏波保持ファイバ20のコアの位置が一致するように、固定用治具102を制御する。【選択図】図4
