PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet conveyance device and a sheet conveyance method capable of properly conveying sheets even when the sheets have different sizes or thicknesses upon the conveyance of the sheets while sucking the sheets.SOLUTION: In a sheet conveyance device, a negative pressure generation part which generates a negative pressure is included in a suction box 71, a suction opening part 95 is provided on a sheet conveyance surface in the suction box 71, a closure member 103 which can close the suction opening part 95 and is provided with a suction opening communication part 115 communicating with the suction opening part 95 is provided, the suction opening part 95 communicates with the suction opening communication part 115 at a plurality of points divided in a conveyance direction F of a sheet and the width direction W orthogonal to the conveyance direction F and, thereby, the sheet can be conveyed by using the suction opening part 95 at the position in accordance with at least any of the size, thickness and conveyance position of the sheet. 【課題】シートを吸引しつつ搬送するときに、シートの大きさや厚さが異なっても、適正にシートを搬送することが可能なシート搬送装置及びシート搬送方法を提供することである。【解決手段】シート搬送装置は、吸引箱７１内に負圧を発生させる負圧発生部が含まれ、吸引箱７１は、吸引開口部９５がシート搬送面に設けられ、前記吸引開口部９５を閉塞可能であり、吸引開口部９５に連通する吸引開口連通部１１５が設けられた閉塞部材１０３を設け、吸引開口部９５が吸引開口連通部１１５に、シートの搬送方向Ｆ、及び前記搬送方向Ｆに直交する幅方向Ｗに沿って分割された複数箇所で連通されることで、シートの大きさ、厚さまたは搬送位置の少なくともいずれかに応じた箇所の吸引開口部９５を用いてシートを搬送可能に構成される。【選択図】図９
