Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a precursor of a positive electrode active material which makes no contribution to a charge and discharge reaction, and further, enables the obtention of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery superior in battery characteristics and safety by reducing the quantity of impurities which would cause the corrosion of a baking furnace and a surrounding equipment; and a method for manufacturing such a precursor.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a precursor of a positive electrode active material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary batteries which includes nickel manganese complex hydroxide particles having a particular composition ratio and has a hollow or porous structure, comprises: the step of cleaning the nickel manganese complex hydroxide particles each having a cavity structure therein with aqueous carbonate solution of which the carbonate concentration is 0.1 mol/L or more.
