Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which has high light extraction efficiency and gas barrier properties even when manufactured by a low-temperature process.SOLUTION: In an organic EL element 100, at least a gas barrier layer 5 and a light-emitting unit 3 which is held between a pair of electrodes 2 and 6 and has organic functional layers including at least one light-emitting layer are laminated in this order on a film substrate 4. The gas barrier layer 5 is formed by a coating method and is composed of two or more layers. At least one of the pair of electrodes 2 and 6 comprises specific metals or an alloy containing them. The organic EL element 100 further has a light-scattering layer 7 between the gas barrier layer 5 and the light-emitting unit 3. 【課題】本発明の課題は、低温プロセスで製造された場合であっても、光取り出し効率及びガスバリアー性が高い有機EL素子を提供することである。【解決手段】フィルム基板4上に、少なくとも、ガスバリアー層5と、一対の電極2、6に挟持され、少なくとも一つの発光層を含んだ有機機能層を有する発光ユニット3とが、この順に積層された有機EL素子100であって、ガスバリアー層5が、塗布法により形成され、かつ、2層以上で構成され、一対の電極2、6の少なくとも一方が特定の金属又はそれらを含む合金からなり、ガスバリアー層5と発光ユニット3との間に光散乱層7を更に有していることを特徴とする。【選択図】図1
