Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that includes an electrophotographic photoreceptor having high wear resistance even when the photoreceptor is subjected to negative charging by charging means employing a proximity charging system, and that gives high image stability of an image to be formed.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: an electrophotographic photoreceptor; charging means employing a proximity charging system to negatively charge a surface of the photoreceptor; exposure means to form an electrostatic latent image on the surface of the electrophotographic photoreceptor; developing means to develop the electrostatic latent image with a toner; transfer means to transfer a toner image onto a transfer material; fixing means to fix the toner image on the transfer material; and cleaning means to remove a residual toner on the electrophotographic photoreceptor. The electrophotographic photoreceptor includes a photosensitive layer formed on a conductive support, and a protective layer formed on the photosensitive layer. The protective layer constituting the electrophotographic photoreceptor comprises P-type semiconductor particles and crosslinked resin particles made of an insulating crosslinked polymer, included in a binder resin. 【課題】 近接帯電方式の帯電手段によって負帯電を行った場合にも高い耐摩耗性を有する電子写真感光体を備え、形成される画像に高い画像安定性が得られる画像形成装置の提供。【解決手段】 電子写真感光体と、これの表面を負帯電させる近接帯電方式の帯電手段と、電子写真感光体の表面に静電潜像を形成する露光手段と、静電潜像をトナーによって現像する現像手段と、トナー像を転写材に転写する転写手段と、トナー像を転写材上に定着させる定着手段と、電子写真感光体上の残留トナーを除去するクリーニング手段とを備え、電子写真感光体が、導電性支持体上に感光層が形成され、感光層上に保護層が形成されてなり、電子写真感光体を構成する保護層が、バインダー樹脂中にP型半導体粒子および絶縁性の架橋重合体よりなる架橋樹脂粒子が含有されてなるものであることを特徴とする。【選択図】 図1
