PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon-containing refractory used in a steel production process, for instance, a MgO-C refractory applied to a converter, a ladle slag line, and the like, of which corrosion resistance, spalling resistance, and the like are improved thereby furnace durability is improved such that the number of use of the furnace is increased.SOLUTION: In a carbon-containing refractory which is composed of a fire resistant material, a carbon material and a binder, the total amount of 0.5-5 mass% in outer percentage of a liquid pitch having 0.05 mass% or less of a benzo [a] pyrene content and a liquid phenol resin as binders is blended to 100 mass% of the total of the fire resistant material and the carbon material. 【課題】本発明の目的は、鉄鋼製造プロセスに使用されるカーボン含有耐火物、例えば転炉、取鍋スラグラインなどに適用されるＭｇＯ−Ｃ質耐火物の耐食性、耐スポーリング性などを向上させ、それによって炉の使用回数延長など耐用性の向上を図ることができるカーボン含有耐火物を提供することにある。【解決手段】本発明のカーボン含有耐火物は、耐火材料、カーボン材料及びバインダーから構成されるカーボン含有耐火物において、バインダーとしてベンゾ［ａ］ピレン含有量が０．０５質量％以下の液状ピッチと、液状フェノール樹脂とを合計量で、耐火材料及びカーボン材料の合計量１００質量％に対し、外掛けで０．５〜５質量％配合することを特徴とする。【選択図】なし
