Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a fault to be caused by stress to toner during toner refresh.SOLUTION: A developing machine 112 for developing an electrostatic latent image formed on a photoreceptor drum 109, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus includes: a developing roller 203 which holds developer for developing the electrostatic latent image on a surface, rotates and supplies the developer held on the surface to the photoreceptor drum 109, to develop the electrostatic latent image; and a refresh control section 123 which controls refresh for discarding the developer held on the surface of the developing roller 203. In one refresh operation, the amount of developer to be moved from the surface of the developing roller 203 to the photoreceptor drum 109 is controlled to be equal to or less than the amount of developer held on the surface of the developing roller 203 at the start of refresh. 【課題】トナーのリフレッシュ処理において発生するトナーへのストレスによる不具合を防ぐこと。【解決手段】電子写真方式の画像形成装置において感光体ドラム109上に形成された静電潜像を現像する現像機112であって、静電潜像を現像するための現像剤を表面上に保持し、回転することによって表面上に保持している現像剤を感光体ドラム109に供給して静電潜像を現像する現像ローラ203と、現像ローラ203表面に保持されている現像剤を破棄するリフレッシュ処理を制御するリフレッシュ制御部123とを含み、1回のリフレッシュ処理において現像ローラ203表面から感光体ドラム109に移動される現像剤の量が、リフレッシュ処理開始時に現像ローラ203表面に保持されている現像剤の量以下となるように制御することを特徴とする。【選択図】図6
