PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance which inhibits a protease and is useful for diseases associated with harmful protease activity in gastrointestinal tract, such as dyspepsia, gastritis, gastric ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, laryngopharyngeal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory disease associated with rectum, inflammatory bowel disease, and the like, and to provide a pharmaceutical composition containing the substance.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a silica which inhibits a protease, and a pharmaceutical composition containing the silica. The silica is preferred to be selected from the group consisting of fumed silica, precipitated silica, amorphous silica, coacervate silica, amorphous silica gel, silica sol, hydrogel silica, and xerogel silica. Particularly the silica is preferred to has an average particle diameter (d50) of less than 10-80 nm and a surface area of less than 5-350 m/g. Preferably the silica is in the suspension state. 【課題】プロテアーゼを阻害し、ディスペプシア、胃炎、胃潰瘍、胃食道逆流症、咽喉頭酸逆流症、過敏性大腸症候群、直腸関連炎症疾患、炎症性腸疾患等、胃腸菅内の有害なプロテアーゼ活性と関連する疾患に対して有用な物質、及び該物質を含有する医薬組成物の提供。【解決手段】プロテアーゼを阻害するシリカ、及び該シリカを含有する医薬組成物。該シリカとしては、ヒュームドシリカ、沈降シリカ、非晶質シリカ、コアセルベートシリカ、非晶質シリカゲル、シリカゾル、ヒドロゲルシリカ、およびキセロゲルシリカからなる群より選択されることが好ましい。該シリカは、特に、１０〜８０ｎｍまでの平均粒径（ｄ５０）及び５〜３５０ｍ２／ｇまでの表面積を有するものであることが好ましい。該シリカは、懸濁剤の状態であることが好ましい。【選択図】図１
