Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide means capable of forming a retardation film and/or a liquid crystal alignment film on a resin film.SOLUTION: A photoalignment liquid crystalline polymer comprises, as structural units, at least one (meth)acrylic monomer having a carboxyl group protected by a protecting group at a position different from a (meth)acrylate group, and at least one (meth)acrylic monomer having a photoaligning moiety. An alignment film is obtained by forming a film from an organic solvent solution of the above polymer. A retardation film and a liquid crystal alignment film are obtained by subjecting the above alignment film to photoalignment, heat treatment, and deprotection.
