Abstract | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing substantially pure MAS directly from a fermentation broth comprising DAS, MAS, and/or SA.SOLUTION: The invention provides a method for producing MAS from a clarified DAS-containing fermentation broth comprising (a) distilling a broth to form an overhead comprising water and ammonia, as well as a liquid bottoms comprising MAS, at least some DAS, and at least about 20% of water; (b) cooling and/or evaporating the liquid bottoms, as well as optionally adding an antisolvent into the liquid bottoms to achieve a sufficient temperature and composition for separating the liquid bottoms into DAS-containing liquid portion and substantially DAS-free MAS-containing solid portion;(c) separating the solid portion from the liquid portion, and (d) collecting the solid portion.
