Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid image quality degradation of a live view image and reduce power consumption while executing high-speed, high-accuracy focusing control.SOLUTION: A control unit 106 exerts a read control over a first pixel group among a plurality of pixels in an imaging element 102 to obtain a first image signal, and exerts a read control over a second pixel group among the pixels to obtain a second image signal. The control unit 106 exerts a second focusing control based on the second image signal obtained by reading of the second pixel group if a focusing state is not obtained by a first focusing control exerted based on the first image signal at a time of displaying a live view image in response to the first image signal on a display unit 109. 【課題】高速でしかも高精度のフォーカス制御を行いつつ、ライブビュー画像の画質の低下を回避して消費電力を低減する。【解決手段】制御部106は撮像素子102において複数の画素のうち第1の画素群の読み出し制御を行って第1の画像信号を得るとともに、複数の画素のうち第2の画素群の読み出し制御を行って第2の画像信号を得る。制御部は第1の画像信号に応じたライブビュー画像を表示部109に表示する際、第1の画像信号に基づいて行われる第1のフォーカス制御で合焦状態が得られない場合、第2の画素群の読み出しで得られた第2の画像信号に基づいて第2のフォーカス制御を行う。【選択図】図1
