Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the life of an image carrier from being reduced below the specification, and image deletion, without providing a new mechanism and increasing the consumption of developer.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus A includes a rotatable photoreceptor 1 that has electrostatic latent images formed on the outer surface, a charging bias application power source unit S1 that applies a charging bias to the photoreceptor 1 during the formation of electrostatic latent images, and a cleaning unit 14 that is brought into contact with the rotating photoreceptor 1 to remove attachments attached to the outer surface of the photoreceptor 1 after the transfer of a visible image to a recording medium P. A CPU 81 varies the charging bias applied to the photoreceptor 1 when the cleaning unit 14 removes the attachments according to a rotational load of the photoreceptor 1. 【課題】新たな機構を設けることなく、且つ現像剤の消費量を増大させることなく、像担持体の寿命が仕様を下回ることや画像流れを抑制すること。【解決手段】画像形成装置Aは、外表面に静電潜像が形成される回転可能な感光体1と、静電潜像を形成する際に感光体1に対して帯電バイアスを印加する帯電バイアス印加電源部S1と、可視像を記録材Pに転写した後に感光体1の外表面に付着している付着物を、回転する感光体1に当接しながら除去するクリーニング部14と、を有する。CPU81は、感光体1の回転負荷に応じて、クリーニング部14により付着物を除去する際の感光体1に印加される帯電バイアスを可変にする。【選択図】 図1
