PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that can simplify a device configuration and easily adjust the display size of an image to be projected, and a display control method of the projector.SOLUTION: A projector includes an optical modulation device 42 that modulates light emitted from a light source 41 to form an image, a projection optical system 43 that enlarges and projects the image formed by the optical modulation device 42, an opening detection unit 21 that has a lid body 33 freely opened and closed and covering the projection optical system 43 and detects the opening of the lid body 33, and a zoom adjustment unit 24 that variably adjusts the display size of the image projected and displayed by the projection optical system 43 according to the opening of the lid body 33 detected by the opening detection unit 21. 【課題】装置構成を簡素化するとともに、投射される画像の表示サイズを容易に調整することができるプロジェクター、及び、プロジェクターの表示制御方法を提供すること。【解決手段】光源部４１から出射された光を変調して画像を形成する光変調装置４２と、光変調装置４２により形成された画像を拡大投射する投射光学系４３と、投射光学系４３を覆う開閉自在の蓋体３３とを備え、蓋体３３の開度を検出する開度検出部２１と、開度検出部２１が検出した蓋体３３の開度に応じて、投射光学系４３が投射して表示する画像の表示サイズを可変調整するズーム調整部２４とを備えたことを特徴とする。【選択図】図２
