Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a protective tube for metal melting furnace having high strength and shock resistance comparable to silicon nitride without damaging characteristics of silicon carbide which is excellent in corrosion resistance and high heat conductivity, and a material and a manufacturing method therefor.SOLUTION: A protective tube for metal melting furnace is constituted of a sintered body manufactured by forming a protective tube material for metal melting furnace by mixing silicon carbide sintering raw material mainly containing silicon carbide powder of 92 to 96 wt.% with a mixture where aluminum nitride powder of 1 to 3 wt.% and resin with the amount such that the carbon content in the sintered body is 3 to 5 wt.% are added, and an alumina powder of 8 to 13 wt.% based on the total amount of the mixture at outer percentage, and sintering it at 1800 to 2000°C. 【課題】耐食性に優れ、高熱伝導率であるという炭化珪素質の特長を損なうことなく、窒化珪素質並みの高い強度及び耐衝撃性を有する金属溶融炉用保護管及びその材料並びに製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】炭化珪素粉末92〜96重量%を主原料とする炭化珪素質焼結体原料に、窒化アルミニウム粉末1〜3重量%及び前記焼結体中での炭素含有率が3〜5重量%となる量のレジンが添加された混合物と、前記混合物の合計量に対して外掛けで8〜13重量%のアルミナ粉末とが混合されてなる金属溶融炉用保護管材料を成形し、1800〜2000℃で焼成して得た焼結体により、金属溶融炉用保護管を構成する。【選択図】なし
