PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a side knock type writing instrument which supports an operation member in an oscillated manner and returns the oscillated operation member to the original position with a simple structure.SOLUTION: A side knock type writing instrument includes a barrel 10, and an operation member 50 in which a pressed piece part 51 is inserted into an open hole 11 for the operation member 11 in a barrel peripheral wall and is exposed to the exterior. A writing part 32 projects by an operation for oscillating the pressed piece part 51 to a barrel inner side. The operation member 50 integrally has: the pressed piece part 51, a front end side of which is extended forward as a free end; an extension support part 52 which is extended forward on a barrel axial direction opposite side with respect to the pressed piece part 51 with a clearance therebetween; and a connection part 53 which connects the pressed piece part 51 and the extension support part 52 at a rear end side. The connection part 53 and the extension support part 52 are held on a barrel inner peripheral surface. 【課題】 簡素な構造でもって、操作部材を揺動可能に支持するとともに、揺動した際の操作部材を元の位置に復元することができる。【解決手段】 軸筒１０と、軸筒周壁の操作部材用貫通孔１１に被押圧片部５１を挿通させて外部に露出した操作部材５０とを備え、被押圧片部５１を軸筒内側へ揺動させる操作によって筆記部３２が突出するようにしたサイドノック式筆記具において、操作部材５０は、前端側を自由端として前方へ延設された被押圧片部５１と、被押圧片部５１に対し軸筒径方向の反対側に間隔を置きながら前方へ延設された延設支持部５２と、これら被押圧片部５１と延設支持部５２とを後端側で接続する接続部５３とを一体に有し、接続部５３及び延設支持部５２が軸筒内周面に保持されている。【選択図】 図１
