PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transportation device and a transportation method by which even if relay transportation means is long or curved, an object which is transported from transportation means to one end side of the relay transportation means can be transported to the other end side of the relay transportation means by use of an actuator having a travel amount which is not much.SOLUTION: A transportation device includes: first transportation means which transports objects 60, 62 to be transported, which are received by a first reception part 15A, to a first discharge part 15B; intermediate reception means for receiving the objects discharged by the first discharge part; inclined relay transportation means 27 which can be vertically moved between a lower standby position below the intermediate reception means and an upper transportation position where the objects are lifted upwards from the intermediate reception means by an intermediate reception part 27A and are transported to a relay delivery part 27B side of themselves by utilization of self-weights of the objects, and is inclined downwards from the relay reception part side to the relay delivery part side; and actuator which vertically moves the inclined relay transportation means between the lower standby position and the upper transportation position. 【課題】中継搬送手段が長い場合や湾曲している場合であっても、搬送手段から中継搬送手段の一端側に搬送された搬送物を、移動量がそれほど大きくないアクチュエータを利用して中継搬送手段の他端側へ搬送することが可能な搬送装置及び搬送方法を提供する。【解決手段】第一受取部１５Ａで受け取った搬送物６０、６２を第一排出部１５Ｂへ搬送する第一搬送手段１５と、第一排出部から排出された搬送物を受け取る中間受取手段と、中間受取手段より下方に位置する下方待機位置と、中継受取部２７Ａによって搬送物を中間受取手段から上方に持ち上げかつ搬送物を搬送物の自重を利用して自身の中継引渡部２７Ｂ側へ搬送する上方搬送位置と、の間を昇降可能であり、中継受取部側から中継引渡部側へ向けて下向きに傾斜する中継傾斜搬送手段２７と、中継傾斜搬送手段を下方待機位置と上方搬送位置との間で昇降させるアクチュエータと、を備える。【選択図】図７
