Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical element, by which generation of foams in an optical element after press-molding can be suppressed.SOLUTION: The optical element includes an oxide glass and a coating film that at least partially covers a surface of the oxide glass. The coating film is a metal oxide film with deficiency of oxygen than a stoichiometric composition. An intake rate for oxygen atoms of the metal oxide film from the oxide glass, at a temperature equal to or higher than the glass transition temperature of the oxide glass is faster than a diffusion rate of metal atoms included in the metal oxide film to the oxide glass.
