Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element that prevents electric connection failure between a feed electrode and a transparent electrode provided inside the element, while enabling the reduction of a driving voltage.SOLUTION: A liquid crystal optical element 50 includes: first substrates 10 and 30; a second substrate 20; first transparent electrodes 11a and 31a, and second transparent electrodes 21a and 22a that are arranged to be opposite to each other through liquid crystal layers 12b and 23b between the first substrates 10 and 30, and second substrate 20; and sealing materials 12a and 23a that are provided between the first substrates 10 and 30, and second substrate 20 and on the periphery of the liquid crystal layers 12b and 23b. The first substrates 10 and 30 have first notch parts 11b and 31b at a part of the peripheral ends of the substrates and a first feed electrode 40 that fills the inside of the first notch parts 11b and 31b, and electrically connected with the second transparent electrodes 21a and 22a.
