Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve gear of an engine capable of switching a cam which opens and closes a valve, and of preventing the locking of rotation of a camshaft, such as due to malfunction of an operation member.SOLUTION: A cam element part includes, in both sides thereof, end face cams having respective maximum lift portions at different phases, and the maximum value of a distance in the axial direction between respective cam faces at the same phase is set to be equal to or smaller than a distance in the axial direction between a first operation member and a second operation member. 【課題】弁を開閉させるカムの切り換えが可能とされたエンジンの動弁装置において、操作部材の作動不良などによりカムシャフトの回転がロックするのを防止できる。【解決手段】カム要素部は、その両側の端面カムの最大リフト部が異なる位相に設けられ、同じ位相での各カム面間の軸方向の距離の最大値が第１の操作部材と第２の操作部材の間の軸方向の距離以下に形成されていることを特徴とする。【選択図】図１０
