Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element capable of achieving cost reduction and high light extraction efficiency while concurrently satisfying formation of a light scattering layer and a high-refractive flat layer and reductions in water content and volatile organic constituent.SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element, in which a light scattering layer 9, a smooth layer 10, an anode layer 2, an organic light-emitting layer 6 and a cathode layer 7 are sequentially laminated on a glass substrate 1, uses a styrene resin as a main material of the smooth layer, whose refraction factor is not less than 1.7.
