Summary: | PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inject hydrocarbon from a hydrocarbon supply valve to an engine exhaust passage when NOis released from an exhaust purification catalyst when a temperature of the exhaust purification catalyst is low.SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine, a hydrocarbon supply valve and an exhaust purification catalyst are disposed in an engine exhaust passage. When NOoccluded from the exhaust purification catalyst, is released, an air-fuel ratio of an exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust purification catalyst is enriched by producing a combustion gas of a rich air-fuel ratio into a combustion chamber. When NOoccluded from the exhaust purification catalyst is released when the temperature of the exhaust purification catalyst is low, the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas flowing into the exhaust purification catalyst, is enriched by injecting the hydrocarbon from the hydrocarbon supply valve to the engine exhaust passage.
【課題】排気浄化触媒の温度が低いときに排気浄化触媒からNOXを放出させるときには、炭化水素供給弁から機関排気通路内に炭化水素を噴射する。【解決手段】内燃機関において、機関排気通路内に炭化水素供給弁と排気浄化触媒とが配置される。排気浄化触媒から吸蔵されたNOXを放出させるときには、通常、燃焼室内にリッチ空燃比の燃焼ガスを生成することにより排気浄化触媒に流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリッチにされる。排気浄化触媒の温度が低いときに排気浄化触媒から吸蔵されたNOXを放出させるときには、炭化水素供給弁から機関排気通路内に炭化水素を噴射することによって排気浄化触媒排気浄化触媒に流入する排気ガスの空燃比がリッチにされる。【選択図】図19 |
