Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device and an image display method capable of improving the image quality by preventing afterglow of a light source from being recognized by a user when a display image sharply changes into a black screen while controlling the amount of luminescence of each of plural light sources constituting a backlight according to partial brightness/darkness of the display image within an identical screen.SOLUTION: The image display device includes control means (77) that performing a filtering processing of different characteristic in a time-axis direction according to the changing speed of brightness/darkness of the display image on a lighting value for controlling the amount of luminescence of plural light sources (73a) when illuminating display panel (72) displaying an image with an illumination means (73) having the plural light sources (73a) from the backside. 【課題】この発明は、同一画面内における表示映像の部分的な明暗に応じてバックライトを構成する複数の光源の発光量をそれぞれ制御する際、表示映像が急激に黒画面に変化するような場合に光源の残光がユーザに認識されることを防止して、画質の改善を図り得るようにした映像表示装置及び映像表示方法を提供することを目的としている。【解決手段】表示映像の形成された表示パネル(72)面を、複数の光源(73a)を有する照明手段(73)で背面側から照明する際、複数の光源(73a)の発光量を制御するための点灯値に対し、表示映像の明暗の変化する速さに応じて時間軸方向に特性の異なるフィルタリング処理を施す制御手段(77)を備える。【選択図】 図3
