Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a glass blank for a magnetic disc which improves falling stability of glass gob and improves quality of the glass blank.SOLUTION: When manufacturing a glass blank having a pair of main surfaces used for a glass substrate for a magnetic disc, a pair of cutting blades arranged to face each other are made to cross each other relative to the flow direction of a molten glass stream, so that the molten glass stream is cut. A glass gob available by the cutting is dropped, and the glass gob which is dropping is pinched with a pair of press surfaces for press formation, to form a glass blank. Here, a cross angle of the pair of cutting blades is 20° or less when the glass gob is separated from the molten glass stream. 【課題】ガラスゴブの落下安定性を向上させ、ガラスブランクの品質を向上させることができる磁気ディスク用ガラスブランクの製造方法を提供する。【解決手段】磁気ディスク用ガラス基板に用いられる一対の主表面を有するガラスブランクを製造する際、互いに対向配置された一対の切断刃を溶融ガラス流の流れ方向に対して互いに交差させることにより溶融ガラス流を切断し、該切断によって得られるガラスゴブを落下させ、落下中のガラスゴブを一対のプレス面で挟んでプレス成形をすることによりガラスブランクを成形する。ここで、上記溶融ガラス流からガラスゴブが分離する際の上記一対の切断刃の交差角度が20度以下である。【選択図】図3
